If your property has recently been rewired, had significant electrical work carried out, or undergone a renovation that included new electrical installations — a DGEG compliance certificate confirms that all work meets current Portuguese standards and is valid for insurance, resale and rental purposes. If the original electrician who carried out the work has not provided certification, or if you're unsure whether the work was carried out to the required standard, we carry out an independent inspection and issue certification where appropriate. One of the most common questions we receive is: what exactly does an electrical compliance certificate contain, and will it satisfy my solicitor / insurer / Câmara Municipal? The answer is important because different authorities ask for the documentation in different ways and many Algarve property owners don't know what they've been given or whether it's complete. An electrical compliance certificate issued by a DGEG certified electrician in Portugal records the installation assessment date, the scope of the installation inspected, the electrician's DGEG registration number, the compliance status of the installation, and any deficiencies identified. It is issued under Portuguese electrical regulations and is the legally recognised form of certification for all of the following purposes: Alojamento Local licence applications submitted to the Câmara Municipal; property sale transactions reviewed by solicitors and notaries; property insurance policies and renewals; mortgage applications from UK and Irish lenders requiring Portuguese property compliance documentation; and resale due diligence by future buyers.
